What is The Fourth Wheel?
The Fourth Wheel is a weekly newsletter that explains, analyses and gently pokes fun at the world of watches. The Fourth Wheel is published every Friday morning at 10:10 UK time.
Who are you?
I’m Chris Hall, I have been a journalist for 15 years, and have written about watches for 13 of them. I’m a freelance writer and editor, and it’s my ambition to create a new platform for watch journalism that is funded entirely by its readers. By joining up as a paid subscriber, you have just helped move that dream slightly closer to reality!
For now, I combine creating The Fourth Wheel with traditional freelance journalism, for magazines and newspapers in the UK, USA and occasionally elsewhere. My previous roles include six years as deputy editor/digital editor of QP Magazine and four years as Watch Editor for Mr Porter. I live and work in London, so while I aim to address the watch world in its entirety, you will find a UK-centric focus to the Fourth Wheel. I also talk frequently about the nature of watch media, and the business of marketing, advertising and talking about watches, as well as the watches themselves.
Why should I subscribe?
If you like watches, there isn’t another newsletter quite like it. Every week I address a topic or theme that’s front-of-mind for watch fanatics. Maybe I’m reacting to a controversy, providing my take on the biggest new developments, or offering an insight that you might not find elsewhere. Once a month I review a new watch; every ten issues I answer your questions, and in between I make as many silly jokes and sly comments as I think I can get away with.
Free subscribers will receive an email on the first Friday of every month. To see everything The Fourth Wheel has to offer, consider upgrading to a paid subscription: you’ll get the email every week, full access to back issues, and advance notice of future projects. If you already subscribed in full, thank you for your support. It means a lot.
